(a) Before she blew out the light, she asked God to give her a sign. A sign to show her that he, god, would not jilt her as George had, that he would show up on this very special time for her. The result, that she is left in the dark is the equivalent, to her, as George jilting her. She is totally devastated as, "For a second time there was no sign. Again no bridegroom and the priest in the house" (5). The fact that her sense of present and past are totally mixed up and in some cases are one, make this a total disaster for her.
